Thinking of taking a short break this winter?  Scotland has so much to offer - below I have listed some great reasons to come and visit our hotels this winter season.

10 great reasons to visit Scotland for a short break this winter:

  1. The weather in winter can be quite settled, cold but often with lots of sunshine just perfect for long winter walks and cuddling up in front of a log fire.  The days are short so no need to get up too early, plenty time to relax over a hearty full Scottish breakfast to set you up for the day.
  2. During the winter months in Scotland a lot of the “locals” hibernate including some visitor attractions and hotels but many do not - you have the best of Scotland when the roads are quiet, less people means you the freedom to explore the wonderful attractions that are open.  Here at Scotland’s Personal Hotels our hotels are open all winter.
  3. Think country walks, roaring log fires, snow capped mountains, stunning scenery, mystical lochs & glens and quiet roads to explore the real Scotland this winter.
  4. Experience the Northern Lights. Visit rural Scotland in winter and witness nature’s amazing light display.  Dark skies are essential for star gazing and Scotland and in particular the west coast is widely recognised as the best dark skies in Europe.
  5. Perfect time to visit Scotland’s distilleries – with the roads quiet and not many people about you can see local distilleries hard at work, most are open across Scotland during the winter months.  At the end of a hard day exploring a selection of distilleries what better than enjoying a dram at one of Scotland’s Personal Hotels.  There is just something about having a whisky when it is cold outside and you are sitting in front of a roaring log fire!! Bliss!
  6. A great collection of winter activities are available across Scotland including: - Skiing, curling, hiking, mountain biking, off-road driving to quieter pursuits:  golf in winter cold but quiet!, wildlife photography, star gazing, leisurely country strolls or just chilling!!
  7. Wildlife in winter – take time to explore the wonders of Scotland’s wildlife. Across Scotland you will find eagles, geese, red deer, wild hare, ptarmigans and the lovable red squirrels.
  8. Food glorious food - Scotland in winter – it’s an excellent time for hearty soups and stews as well as wonderful seafood and Scottish game. Food in season over the winter months in Scotland includes all the following and so much more: cod, razor clams, langoustine, mussels, wild game including pheasant, duck, partridge and venison.  Let our hotel restaurants spoil you this winter with some fantastic winter menus.
  9. Winter in Scotland is low season and hotels tend to be quiet so prices are much better than the summer months.  However, weekends are busy so always book in advance.
  10. Last but not least our hotels – all personally run by the owners so you are assured of a warm welcome, great food, cosy bars, comfortable accommodation and the best of friendly personal service.
