Scotland is known across the world as the place to celebrate New Year but where do you go and what are your choices? We hope the following gives you a little insight into New Year in Scotland and helps you to decide on what suits you best, to make sure you find the right hotel in the right location for you.
There are really three main types of New Year Breaks in Scotland.
1. New Year House Parties The traditional Scottish New Year with a gala dinner and Ceilidh - an evening of Scottish dancing and great entertainment. New Year house parties tend to be over three nights arriving 30 December in plenty of time for dinner. Hogmanay - 31 December : enjoy a leisurely breakfast and take the day to explore the area. Some hotels arrange entertainment during the day but it is really all about the gala evening and Ceilidh. The traditional New Year evening will start with Champagne reception followed by dinner and after dinner a traditional Scottish Ceilidh with a band and Scottish dancing. Great fun for all the family. Our hotels offering a traditional Scottish New Year are: Wheatsheaf Hotel in the Scottish Borders and Tontine Hotel, Peebles.
2. New Year Street Parties. Edinburgh is the best known street party with all sorts of entertainment over the New Year period - perfect for all ages. Tickets to the New Year Street party can be arranged by your hotel or you can book direct:
Apart from Edinburgh there are many local town parties across Scotland, usually held in the local town hall, so if you want to party and celebrate with the locals this is the break for you. The hotels that would offer this type of New Year break will be smaller local hotels. Edinburgh Hotels – Nira Caledonia & The Dunstane Houses plus self catering apartments are another great option. Local Hotels include - Bridge of Lochay Killin for your own exclusive New Year party, Ardshiel Hotel Kintyre, Clachan Cottage Hotel.
3. Quiet relaxing get away from it all New Year Breaks. Many people like to get away from it all, enjoy good food in a relaxed setting to bring in the New Year in a quiet but very enjoyable way. We have some lovely country house hotels like Blackaddie House Hotel who lay on wonderful food in a quiet peaceful setting to bring in the New Year in style. All hotel New Year breaks tend to be for a minimum three nights but two nights are possible. Self catering properties are for a week.
