Mackays Hotel is located in Wick, in the beautiful area of Caithness. Built in 1883, the hotel has gained wide recognition for its high standard of award winning service and fine food. The hotel is continually updated, successfully enhancing the period features with simple yet stylish touches to provide a relaxed atmosphere. Mackays Hotel is an ideal base to tour the northern Highlands and Orkney Isles.

Our friendly bar is at the heart of the Wick community and the centre of Hotel activity. With a well stocked bar – Whisky and wines are a speciality – you’ll find yourself in good company and good spirits! Of course, during the day you can relax with a newspaper or a board game and enjoy one of our many choices of coffees and teas.
The breakfast, served in the dining room, is like one you’ve never experienced before. Locally produced Caithness sausages, bacon and eggs with all the trimmings or, for the health conscious amongst you, cereal, fruit or continental options.

In No 1 Bistro, as in the rest of the hotel, we use locally sourced ingredients to serve delicious lunches and dinners seven days a week; again, No1 is loved by locals and guests alike and brings a buzzing, friendly atmosphere to the hotel most nights. For full details and menu options click here.

With 30 rooms to choose from we can offer you a combination of twin, double or single and if you are visiting with young family we’ll be happy to accommodate you with adjoining rooms or additional bed space.

Caithness is a wonderful, mystical part of Scotland with many places to visit. Mackays Hotel in Wick gives you the perfect base from which to explore this largely unspoilt region and we are only a ferry ride away from the beautiful Orkney islands. From the grandeur of The Castle of Mey, home to the Queen Mother for many years to the simplicity of our coastal views and isolated beaches, the variety of things to do and see within a short drive of Wick will amaze you.

Caithness is a bird watching paradise with birds of many species on the cliffs and inland on the bog or farming countryside. If you come in the springtime, the tens of thousands of nesting seabirds will amaze you.

Caithness has over 4000 monuments and castle ruins dating from Prehistoric times right up the more recent Highland Clearances era. Most are not signposted but simply ask at reception for a map and directions to enjoy a wonderful passage through time. Entry to castle and monument sites are in the main, free.

Our local whisky, Pulteney, has its own distillery and you can tour this, sampling the wonderful malt and liquer on offer. Once your visit to us ends, you can continue to explore Scotland’s distilleries

No visit to Caithness would be complete without a tour of the award winning Wick Heritage Centre; run by Wick Society on an entirely voluntary basis, all the items are on loan by individuals or their families ensuring a genuine and personal look through the history of the area.
