Kylesku Hotel Kylesku
The Kylesku Hotel, ( Included in the 2009 Michelin Guide to Eating out in Pubs) an old coaching inn dating from 1680, is situated by the former ferry slipway on the shores of the loch. With an excellent restaurant, friendly family bar and cosy residents’ lounge, the hotel is the perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing break and an ideal base for exploring the area.
Our comfortable 3-star bedrooms are en-suite, centrally heated and equipped with televisions and tea & coffee-making facilities.
Both the restaurant and bar have splendid views of the loch and menus specialise in local game and seafood. Fresh langoustine, spineys, lobster, crab, scallops, haddock and mussels are available daily and are complemented by a wide selection of wines and malt whiskies.
The 2009 Good Hotel Guide has rated us in their top ten seaside hotels in the UK - "'What a beautiful location.' 'Best view from the loo in all Scotland.' 'During meals we were entertained by seals doing back-flips in the loch.' This white-painted 17th-century former coaching inn stands on the shore where lochs Glendhu and Glencoul meet in 'breathtaking' north-west Sutherland ('purple mountains, huge white beaches, incredible rock formations'). The 'hands-on' owners, Louise and Struan Lothian (he is the chef), are 'really nice people', says a returning visitor. 'Their staff are genuinely friendly.' There are 'magnificent views' from the lounge (cosy with wood-burning stove and large library), the dining room, and the 'simple but comfortable' bedrooms. 'Our room had cream walls and a pine-clad bathroom.' The bar is busy all day with visitors, and with locals eating in the early evening; the menus here and in the restaurant are similar. 'Very good food, especially the seafood', eg, grilled langoustines with garlic mayonnaise; pan-fried haddock with lemon butter. 'Breakfast the best we had in Scotland: delicious scrambled egg and smoked salmon.' 'First-rate fry-up.' 'Well-trained and cheerful young staff: service was faultless, and really made a difference to our stay.' Children are welcomed."

Our restaurant has a strong reputation for serving some of the best food in the area.
The Chef uses fresh local produce wherever possible, and with local fishing boats landing daily in Kylesku, seafood is a speciality. We even hot and cold-smoke salmon in-house. Beef and lamb fillets are from beasts reared in the Scottish Highlands and all our venison is wild.
As well as hearty and enticing breakfast and dinner menus and an interesting wine list, the restaurant also offers stunning panoramic views of Loch Glendhu and the mountains beyond.
Dinner is served on a set price basis at £24.50 for two courses and £28.50 for three.
The restaurant is open from 1 May until early September, however, bar meals are available all season.
We have 8 comfortable double and twin bedrooms, 6 of which are en-suite. One of the rooms is a family bedroom with a king-size bed and bunks. All bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities and colour televisions and most have great views of the loch and mountains beyond. Residents also have use of the residents

There are a number of beautiful sandy beaches in this part of Sutherland. To the north of Kylesku there is the stunning Oldshoremore beach, Durness Bay and Sandwood Bay. My favourite is the relatively quiet Oldshoremore, which has easy access from a carpark 100m away. Flanked on both sides by impressive rocky cliffs, it makes a great spot for an afternoon with the family. The famous Sandwood Bay is even more impressive but is less accessible, requiring a 4 mile walk to get there.
To the South of Kylesku, along the coast of Assynt, there is the white sand and rocky coves of the ever popular Achmelvich Bay.
This area of the country supports a wide variety of wildlife. The red deer and the roe deer are indigenous to the area; foxes are plentiful; otters, seals and golden eagles are regularly seen around Kylesku; whales, dolphins and porpoises can be spotted from boat trips out of Kylesku or Lochinver; and if you’re lucky then you might even see a wild cat, mountain hare or pine martin.
The area is also a bird-watching paradise with a number of both coastal and inland spots teeming with feathered friends. A few places worth a visit are Handa Island, Stoer Point and Culag Woods.
